The Car

To get things straight out of the way: NO this not the car that flipped (1999 Mercedes CLR). Although the CLK LM did retire early on during the 24h race, it proved to be a dominant car by winning every remaining race, and its predecessor, the CLK GTR, was equally dominant as well. With the V8 engine from the Sauber C9 and a sleeker nose the LM version was specifically built for Le Mans. The no. 35 car clocked pole position with Bernd Schneider, and initially was leading the race, but retired after facing mechanical failure at lap 19, and the second car retired a few laps after. Because of its striking dominance, the GT1 class came to an end as all manufacturers left, ultimately killing its own class. Although both LM’s retired from the race, they qualified 1st and 3rd and showed great pace. 
The Model

While the CLK LM and my earlier CLK GTR model look quite alike, they share almost nothing internally. Only the roof and the side panelling are identical between the models. The LM doesn’t even use the wheel axles and includes a chassis for placing a minifig in the cockpit. The entire front end got reworked to lower the nose. The bottom part was hollowed out to sink the headlight and grill assembly even lower, lowering the bonnet by almost a plate. This does mean that the front end is rather fragile. This model is more meant as a display only model, and should be handled with care. It won’t fall apart from looking at it, but it can’t handle rough play.
The rear end also got reworked, and although the taillights and snot bricks stayed, the rest changed, adding a diffuser, different exhaust outlets, and a ducktail sweeping upwards. Initially there was a gap between the tail and the rear end, but this got eliminated using brackets and cheeseslopes, filling the gap seamlessly.
