The car

The McLaren F1 is arguably one of the most extraordinary cars from the 90s, or ever in that sense. At some point it was the fastest car on the planet, had a central seating position, and was designed by the legendary Gordan Murray, inspired by F1 cars.
The F1, although fast and remarkable, was never designed to compete in endurance races, and although the car received some upgrades to keep it running for 24 hours, it wasn’t a full-on developmeent of McLaren. Quite some F1 GTR’s ran in the 1995 running of the 24 hours of Le Mans, such as the Harrods and Gulf liveries, and the eventual winner, the black Tokyo Ueno Clinic car. This was the prototype car from McLaren themselves to test all the updates on. In the wettest ever race, with roughly 17 hours of wet and damp conditions, the McLaren beated the competition and secured its mayden and only win in France.
The model

As you might have noticed, this model is based on the 76918 McLaren F1 LM. When I got the set and reviewed it, I found it to be an almost perfect rendtion of the real car, and couldn’t do much better myself. Just like the real car, I only made minor updates to the model to resemble the GTR model. Added light on the nose, sideskirts and a wider wing were added to accomplish the look of the F1 GTR. Additionally, only logo’s are captured with using stickers, anything else is brickbuilt!
As this set is very similar to the existing F1 LM model, instructions are FREE for this model. This way you have the chance to experience one of my LM mocs, that receive alot of care and attention to detail, and see what it’s all about! It also helps reduce costs, as you can just use the existing set for the most part, and only order the ‘bodywork’ in the right colours. The inventory includes the entire model, but alternatively you can simply use the set, and order what you don’t have yet. A partslist with just the additional parts has been added to the files. 2 Parts are missing, as they aren’t in stud.io yet (part 3388 and 3389 in black).

Stickers
Together with Brickstickershop, we looked at what stickers could be re-used from the existing stickersheet to match it to set, as well as changing or adding new stickers. With the set getting some prints for the nose, rear bumper and cockpit, we introduced some new stickers for these areas, with thin strips for the sides of plates, and a specially made wrap-around sticker for the cockpit. The biggest gripe I had with the original model was that the shoulder line was way too high for the side windows, so I fixed this for the F1 GTR, bringing it down all the way to the angled shoulder.
