“The car

The Citroën DS was presented at the Autosalon de Paris in 1955, and immediately drawed attention. Not only its design was breathtaking for the time, but the DS also featured innovative technology for its time, most notably its unique suspension system (hydropneumatic suspension), which relied on hydraulics rather than mechanical components. The hydraulic system was also utelized for breaking, steering and even the gearbox. The hydraulic suspension would also mean when the car was activated, it would raise a little from the ground, something that would inspire many sci-fi vehicles later on.
The model

As soon as the mudguard elements came out in sand green, I immediately knew I wanted to build a Citroën DS. Capturing the iconic teardrop shape and downward sloping canopy was quite tricky, and took a few tries. Also using sand green as the main building colour caused some issues, as it’s not a common building colour, but luckily last year’s Icons Defender provided many pieces in this classy colour. But by building in such a restricted colour means that the DS can be built in a total of 11 different colours! For teal the only compromise is to swap out the 1×1 plate with clips for light gray ones.
The model is also equipped with a comfy leather interior of medium nougat, and can seat 2 minifigs with short hair in the front. Due to the structural support, the B-pillars and a thicker roof at the rear, the rear seat cannot accomodate minifigures.
The model uses inspiration from other great renditions of the DS, such as JE brickworks and Pierre Brunsvig. I however wanted to give my own rendition of this classic car

Build tip: The inventory has been made for sand green part availability, in other colours you can subtitute for larger parts (e.g. 1×8 plates, 1×6 tile, etc). You can also use other tires on the DS that are more widely available, but to compliment the classic appearance, these older tires do the job perfectly. Currently all sand green parts are in production and available via Pick A Brick, so if you consider building it in sand green, and don’t want to pay too much, I can recommend ordering via Pick A Brick.
