The car
The Porsche 962 was a replacement for the 956 in 1984, but mainly came to life due to IMSA regulations. Porsche wanted to enter both IMSA and WSC with the 956, but the car was banned in the status because the drivers’ feet were in front of the front axle. Porsche thus modified the car, extending the wheelbase, and changing the engine to comply to the IMSA rules, and thus the 962 was born. Ironically, Porsche entered a 962C (the European cars have the C designation) into the 24 hours of Le Mans, but lost from an older 956. 1986 and 1987, this specific car, clinched the win again, ending the longest winning streak by any manufacturer in Le Mans, as Jaguar would prove too strong the following year.
The model
The 956 and 962 look nearly identical, and the only real differences are the wheelbase and some air-vents. Sadly these changes aren’t able to be replicated at this scale, but I can assure you the builds differ quite a bit for both cars. I did change the nose design, to be a bit steeper as the 962C has a shorter nose. Additionally, we finally have dark blue fenders in production! I changed the design to accomodate the new sc fenders. Also the chassis got changed, a bit stronger and more smooth on the underside. The result is a massive drop in piece count, just over 200 pieces!
Stickers
Brickstickershop once again designed a beautifully matching livery for the 962C which is as accurate as it gets. Stickers are now available via brickstickershop.com HERE.
Custom rims
Partnering with BricktheBrick, a set of custom BBS rims was created to match the official 962C car. You can choose to build the car with these custom 3D-printed rims which are available HERE, or the works aerodisks included in the stickersheet by Brickstickershop.
