” “She may not look like much but she’s got it where it counts, kid.” – Han Solo
“RRRAAARGGGHHH!” – Chewbacca
She’s fastest ship in the galaxy and my absolute favourite! This is my attempt at an easy to display, affordable, micro scale Millennium Falcon.
- Millennium Falcon: 332 pieces, 14.7cm long, 11.2cm wide, approximately £30 to build
- Stand: 31 pieces, around £3 to build
- Han, Chewie, Leia, Luke, C-3PO and R2-D2: 22 pieces, £0.75 to build
I started this project back in 2016 using the 75030 Millennium Falcon Microfighter cockpit piece as a reference. I wanted to build something small that I could display on my desk, using common parts, with the right proportions and lots of recognisable details. Along the way I discovered Bricklink, Studio, the fantastic Rebrickable and Eurobricks communities, and towards the end of 2019 I settled on a final design.
I’ve tried to include as many distinguishing features as possible like the engine vents, turrets, bunk room, smuggled goods and of course Chewie’s Dejarik table. The top and bottom surfaces of the ship are highly detailed and I’ve managed to build an interior too, it’s not to scale but represents as much detail as I could squeeze inside!
The roof is removed by pulling the dish upwards then forwards, sliding it out from under the angled 1×1 slopes at the rear. Despite the hollow space the ship is still pretty strong and can be swooshed around without crumbling to pieces.
The upper and lower halves of the ship interlock and are connected by the side docking rings. Both top and bottom surfaces are studs-out and the underside features the correct shaping, a turret, landing gear and a folding landing ramp. The cockpit shown here is a 2×2 truncated cone (part 98100) from set 75030 (2014), which was discontinued a long time ago but has been replaced by similar parts in sets 75193 (2018) and 75295 (2021). The latest and most commonly available cockpit piece is included in the inventory here but you can of course use whichever of the three you can get hold of.
I hope you enjoy this little Falcon, it’s been a joy to work on and after running with the idea for most of 2020 and 2021 I’m very pleased to have been able to build a small 1:250 fleet of my favourite Star Wars ships.
All of my micro Star Wars MOCs are as close to 1:250 scale as I can make them, if you’d like to see more photos and renders then head over to my Flickr and Instagram pages. Thanks for looking and may The Force be with you!
Update v1.1: Thanks to Seejay for pointing out a couple of mistakes in my instructions, the new instructions and parts list fix these errors along with swapping out a few rare parts to further reduce the cost.
Update v1.11: A very minor quality update to all of the Stud.io renders and a few improvements to the instructions for clarity. No structural changes 🙂
Update May 2020: May the fourth be with you! Due to popular demand I’ve put together a Studio model of my Escape from Jakku scene. The model includes everything but the Falcon, I originally built the scene from spare parts and have recreated it with some effort to simplify and reduce cost, but not much 🙂 You’ll probably be able to knock at least 25% off the cost with a bit of time, but as it stands the scene will cost around £15 in parts. The file can be downloaded from the instructions tab, enjoy!
Update 1.12: A very, very minor update to remove a superflous piece that was colliding when sandwhiching the upper and lower halves together, I’ve updated the instructions and parts list accordingly. Big thanks to the eagle-eyed anson42 for spotting that one, thats not the sort of skill you can learn from a Jedi! I am sorry that the instructions aren’t perfect and I genuinely appreciate any comments or complaints, I’m striving for perfection so they all help.
Update January 2021: I’ve just added Lando’s white and blue Kessel Run Millennium Falcon from the Solo film to my roster, it’s my 50th Rebrickable MOC! I’ve also added the instructions and custom sticker template as a zip file to this page. You can use the Studio file or parts list on the Solo Falcon page to create a Bricklink Wanted List without buying the other MOC, so if you’ve bought this little Falcon you now have access to both. Enjoy!
Update v1.13: It’s been a while since I looked back at some of my older MOCs so I decided to update a few parts on the Falcon to get rid of a few rare, old pieces (e.g. cockpit and gun barrels), bringing the total cost back down to around £35. I’ve also added the little crew figures!” – By the author
